The internet is a great source for information and car reviews - sites that offer auto buying tips, safety reports and reviews of vehicles

Here’s my selection for this week. Let me know if you find them helpful.

www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htm opens the front page of ConsumerReports.org. This site offers unbiased reviews and free advice about the car buying process. The site also provides thousands of review ratings for most vehicles sold in the U.S. marketplace. Additionally, consumerreports.org previews new cars just entering the market and examines the impact of increasing fuel costs on the auto industry.

www.caranddriver.com is a membership site. Members can elect to receive newsletters, periodic notices and consumer reports describing industry events. The site also provides auto reviews, auto buying forums and advice for car buyers.

www.autos.msn.com is an informational site providing free valuation services. Vehicles are divided into nine categories and are evaluated accordingly:

  • Passenger cars
  • Hybrids
  • Vans and Minivans
  • Sports Utilities
  • Luxury Cars
  • Pickup Trucks
  • Sports Cars
  • Future Cars
  • Certified pre-owned vehicles.

Interesting articles about Sports Car Racing and Auto News are featured throughout the site.

www.theautochannel.com offers a great deal of resource material. Prospective purchasers can enter the year and make of the vehicle they are considering and receive pricing information, safety ratings and lists of specifications regarding the vehicle. There are numerous buyer’s guides and articles for auto buyers.

These review sites serve a purpose as viable resource centers. When purchasing a new or used car, much of this information should be used to help make your selection and to familiarize the buyer with the pricing.

The most effective car buying is best accomplished by incorporating information from these sites with your experience at your dealership. As a valued consumer you are entitled to ask as many questions as necessary to build a comfort level with the dealer. Remember, you will most likely be using that dealership for ongoing services and they will be standing behind the manufacturer’s warranty.

If you have questions regarding car reviews, new or used, Darryl at www.darrylyourcarguy.com offers experienced help and reliable input.
